About the Project

STORIES from is a private, non-commercial project. It is about portraying people from Laos by taking photos and conducting interviews with them. The portrayed persons were asked general questions about their career and profession, but also about their opinions, thoughts or perspectives, including questions that everyone has probably asked themselves at some point.

It is not about evaluating the answers! The answers to the questions are only intended to give people from other countries or cultures the opportunity to compare them with their own views. In this way, everyone can decide for themselves how different or not the views are compared to their own.

STORIES from was intended to bring Laotian society closer to the viewer. What is work life like, what is private life like, ...?  Ideally, commonalities will be shown to the observer despite possible cultural differences. In this way, STORIES from can hopefully contribute to a better understanding of other cultures that may seem foreign to one and to rethinking and perhaps even revising prejudices.

The questions were asked and answered in Lao and then translated as best as possible. I would like to express my special thanks to Namkhing. He not only helped me with the interviews in Lao and translated them, but also helped a lot with the organization of the interviewees. Without his commitment and help, the project would have been difficult to realize. Many, many thanks for that!

I am very grateful to the respondents for their trust. Therefore, I see it as my duty to deal responsibly with their answers and photos. There is a declaration of consent from all participants.
